Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS), also known as Fetal Calf Serum (FCS), is an important supplement added to cell culture medium for maintaining cell health, promoting cell expansion, and other general cell culture applications. FBS is harvested from the blood drawn from a bovine fetus. FBS is a large source of proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates, electrolytes, lipids and other components necessary in many cell culture applications to support overall cell growth.
