Description
Salmonella typhimurium (Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium) is a food-borne pathogen which infects the GI tract where it competes with normal flora for nutrients in order to establish infection. S. typhimurium uses multiple defense mechanisms to resist environmental factors (like the acidic pH of the stomach) and virulence mechanisms which allow it to invade the intestinal epithelium and disseminate throughout the host.
