X-linked Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein (XIAP) is a member of a novel family of Inhibitor of Apoptosis (IAP) proteins.1 XIAP is the best characterized and the most potent direct endogenous caspase inhibitor and is considered a key actor in the control of apoptotic threshold in cancer cells.2 XIAP may be considered as a new independent prognostic marker for early recurrence of non-muscular invasive bladder cancer.3
