Alpha-1 antichymotrypsin (A1AC), an alpha globulin glycoprotein synthesized in the liver, belongs to the crucial serpin superfamily of protease inhibitors. In humans, the SERPINA3 gene is responsible for its production. A1AC's primary role is to inhibit the activity of specific proteases by cleaving them into different conformations, thereby neutralizing their destructive potential.
